Governmental Affairs:

A primary purpose of the Oregon Health Care Association is to present a unified voice before state government on behalf of our members. OHCA strives to sustain relationships with legislators and policymakers in both the legislative and executive branches of state government.

OHCA members are represented in the political process by three full time lobbyists. OHCA lobbyists maintain an active and regular presence in the Salem Capitol Building during the legislative session, as well as during the interim. Legislative and advocacy strategies are implemented in consultation with the OHCA membership with the goal of involving as many members as possible. OHCA’s Public Policy Committee meets during the legislative session to monitor legislative developments.

OHCA's legislative affairs efforts focus mainly on state issues, however, OHCA staff and committees also monitor federal issues and respond to AHCA and NCAL's requests for involvement at the local, state and national levels.

OHCA PAC (Political Action Committee):
An important component of OHCA’s legislative affairs strategy is the OHCA Political Action Committee (OHCA PAC). OHCA PAC makes expenditures during an election cycle to a variety of political campaigns, including individual candidates, political party committees, and ballot measure committees. Specifically, OHCA PAC makes expenditures, on a non-partisan basis, to entities who demonstrate support for programs and services that directly affect OHCA members and Oregon’s quality long term care system. OHCA PAC relies on support from all OHCA members to be successful in pursuing our legislative agenda. Voluntary PAC contributions are not tax deductible, but may be eligible for limited tax credits based on filing status. You should consult a tax advisor for specific information. For further information on how you can contribute to OHCA PAC, please contact Lauren Rhoades.
