Care for older people is often times also about care for people living with dementia. At this year’s Elder Abuse Awareness & Prevention Summit, which prefaces World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, co-collaborators Oregon Health Care Association (OHCA), the Oregon Department of Human Services, and LeadingAge Oregon have partnered to create a special program that allows attendees to learn more about dementia and also experience what it’s like to live with dementia.
In addition to training, all attendees will experience an interactive workshop, the Dementia Live™ experience from AGE-u-cate®. Dementia Live™ is a high impact experience that immerses participants into life with dementia, resulting in a deeper understanding of what it’s like to live with cognitive impairment and sensory change. Participants are outfitted in specialized gear to simulate the dementia experience. They are then given a series of tasks to perform in an enclosed “experience area,” where they discover the challenges of life with cognitive impairment.
