Traffic Notice: I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project

As part of the I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project, there will be major closure of all lanes of I-5 southbound through the Rose Quarter in Portland for up to 5 weeks starting September 11. ODOT estimate the closure will increase traffic on both I-5 and local streets.

We encourage you to plan ahead to give yourself more time to reach the Oregon Convention Center. You can find information about specific impact areas in this fact sheet. In brief:

  • I-5 southbound will be closed between exit 302B to I-405 and the westbound I-84 on-ramp
  • All I-5 southbound travel will be detoured to I-405 southbound.
  • Regional traffic will be directed to I-205. One lane of I-5 southbound will remain open to the Broadway exit by the Moda Center
  • The I-84 westbound ramp to I-5 southbound will remain open.
  • I-5 northbound will remain open.

The OCC offers directional screens throughout the building directing you to where the Annual Convention is being held.

The event begins at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Registration opens the day before the event, September 21 between 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. and will open on September 22 at 7:30 a.m. Please arrive between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. to ensure you have enough time to check-in/register before the keynote presentation begins.

Getting There

The Oregon Convention Center is accessible by car, TriMet MAX light rail, bus, and Uber/Lyft. Parking is available at the Oregon Convention Center for $15/day. There are also several privately-operated parking garages and metered parking spaces within three blocks of the Oregon Convention Center. Drop-Off Accessibility

If you have mobility considerations, please consider being dropped off at the Oregon Convention Center bus turnout located on MLK Jr. Blvd. near NE Lloyd Blvd. This will give you close access to the south end of the building, where the OHCA Annual Convention & Trade Show will be taking place.

Designated Entry 

To enter the Oregon Convention Center from the street level, please enter through the MLK Lobby entrance. The parking garage will continue to serve as an additional entry point for attendees parking at the center. Additionally, signage will be placed on non-entry doors as well as external wayfinding.

OCC is Cashless 

In an effort to enable lines to move more swiftly, OCC cafes and the parking garage have transitioned to a cashless environment. Reverse ATMs are available in Pre-function B and South Ginko entrance near existing ATMs. These Reverse ATMs are designed to receive cash and exchange it for a Visa card of equal value, completely anonymous and fee-free.

What should I wear?

There is no official dress code for the OHCA Annual Convention & Trade Show, however, we encourage people to dress comfortably in business casual attire. Please dress in layers as the temperature in the meeting rooms fluctuates and changes.

How can I access session handouts?

Visit the OHCA Annual Convention event website approximately two weeks prior to the event. You can access the handouts via desktop, tablet, and phone.

When will I get my CEUs after the event?

Attendees can individually track their own continuing education units (CEUs) at the OHCA Annual Convention. Through the event website, attendees will easily be able to track CEUs earned, complete online evaluation forms, and print a transcript of sessions attended. To collect CEUs:

  • Step 1: During each session you attend, RECORD the unique CEU code word announced and displayed for that session. A template is provided in the event program to make recording and remembering your codes easy!
  • Step 2: Through your desktop computer or mobile device, visit the event website (through a link OHCA provides), ENTER the CEU code, and EVALUATE each session you attended.
  • Step 3: Once you’ve completed the steps for each session you attend, DOWNLOAD AND PRINT your CEU form!

Your username and password to claim CEUs are the same credentials as your OHCA member portal login.

What meals and activities are included with my registration?

Coffee and light breakfast will be available for all attendees on both mornings. Lunch at the trade show on the first day is included with your registration.

The Awards Ceremony Luncheon on the second day of the conference is available for an additional fee.

In addition, there is a Portland Roasters coffee shop located inside the Oregon Convention Center which offers a variety of coffee and snacks for purchase. The Oregon Convention Center is also within walking distance of many convenient coffee shops and restaurants.

A note about special dietary needs: OHCA and the Oregon Convention Center are happy to accommodate any special dietary needs. Please inform OHCA of your special dietary needs through the online registration system, or by emailing mking@ohca.com at least two weeks prior to the event for planning purposes. At the event, an OHCA staff member or volunteer can connect you with the server who will help in providing the appropriate meal for you.

Is there an evening event?

Yes! All attendees, including exhibitors and sponsors, are encouraged to join us for our all-attendee happy hour on September 22 from 4:30-6 p.m. at Spirit of ’77, across the street from the event venue. OHCA will provide complimentary drinks and appetizers at this event. There are no activities planned following the happy hour.

How do I purchase Awards Ceremony Luncheon tickets?

The OHCA award winners will be honored at the OHCA Annual Convention Awards Program on September 23. Tickets are required. Advance purchase is recommended.

I nominated someone for an award. When will I find out if they were selected?

Nominations for the OHCA Annual Convention awards programs are due by Sunday, August 9, 2026. Recipients will be notified by September 4, 2026. Those nominees not selected will receive a certificate of appreciation from OHCA for their hard work and dedication to the profession. Nominators will be notified by email that their nominee was not selected in early September.

What if state surveyors arrive while I’m attending this event?

The Oregon Safety, Oversight and Quality (SOQ) unit survey teams have agreed that buildings that have at least one or more staff registered for the OHCA Annual Convention will not be surveyed during the Annual Convention dates, September 22-23, if they register by the following deadlines:

  • Assisted living and residential care facilities must register by August 30.
  • Nursing facilities must register by August 30.

Please note, this only applies to full surveys and initial revisits and will not apply to complaint surveys with priority to immediately investigate.

This will not apply to buildings registered after the above deadlines.
