Highlights from the 2023 OHCA Food Show

We hosted our 2023 Food Show last week on August 9 at the Holiday Inn Wilsonville. With more than 40 participants, along with our staff, volunteers, exhibitors, and sponsors, this hands-on event was filled with great energy, valuable educational sessions, and demonstrations. We loved being able to connect and engage long term care food and dietary professionals with exhibitors face-to-face!

The event opened with an interactive session on “Driving Staff and Resident Engagement with Compassion: Using Emotional Intelligence to Create a Culture of Collaboration,” presented by Incite Strategic Partners, OHCA’s purchasing partner and OHCA business partner. Cassandra Whitmore, a consultant dietitian shared tips for managing budget and costs in food services from every angle during the next presentation. Following the morning educational sessions, participants were able to sample delicious food from our sponsors and watch creative demonstrations to inspire ideas to bring to their dining programs. After a delicious lunch with the exhibitors, participants were invited to join the OHCA Dining Council to learn about the state of the supply chain. In the afternoon sessions, participants got to engage with Chef Cory Schrieber from Sysco to learn how to optimize food and manage food waste, as well as Chef Andrew Knudtson from CORE Food Services to help level up their dining atmosphere with ideas for garnishing, plating, and serving food to residents.
