June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).  An outreach guide is available to help organizations plan for the day and raise awareness about abuse, neglect, and exploitation and to empower individuals to take action. The guide can be accessed here.

In advance of and in conjunction with WEAAD, caregivers are invited to attend this year’s Elder Abuse Awareness & Prevention Summit, held June 2 in Wilsonville. This special program allows attendees to learn more about dementia and experience what it’s like to live with dementia.

In addition to trainings, all attendees will experience an interactive workshop, the Dementia Live™ experience from AGE-u-cate®. Dementia Live™ Is a high impact experience that immerses participants into life with dementia, resulting in a deeper understanding of what it’s like to live with cognitive impairment and sensory change. Participants are outfitted in specialized gear to simulate the dementia experience.  They are then given a series of tasks to perform in an enclosed “experience area,” where they discover the challenges of life with cognitive impairment.

Register for this event and insightful experience online.
