Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) March Activity

coworkers talking

Spring is a great time to dust off policies and procedures and evaluate if they align with the most current licensing OAR’s, if they represent current community systems, processes, and practice. A deeper dive would be to evaluate the effectiveness of each policy and procedure. Is it achieving the desired goal and outcome? Do staff understand and follow the guidelines?

If you answer no to any of these questions develop an action plan to update and implement a revised practice. To prioritize the scope of this Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) task, OHCA suggests starting with the DHS list of OAR required policies and procedures.  This handy checklist can be used along with the June 2016 version of the ALF/RCF Oregon Administrative Rules.

This exercise will also assist in evaluating key areas for compliance. The last quarter of 2016 top five survey citations included:

  • C310 Medication Administration,
  • C270 Change of Condition,
  • C260 Resident Service Plan,
  • C280 Resident Health Services, and
  • C330 Medication System Psychoactive Medications.
